Escape Rex Manor

Escape Rex Manor is a puzzle game mixed with card game mechanics. In the game player will be using cards with different abilities to help a raccoon to solve different obstacles and exape Rex's Manor. My role in the team was a level designer. But I also made some 3D models and help with the programming.

The client of this project was Ninjia Kiwi. My group will present and report the weekly progress on the project, receive feedback and improve the game based on it.

One of the design pillars of the game is exploring. We hope the player can utilise the cards they have to use them on different objects and discover their own way to solve the puzzles. Therefore when I designed the obstacle and the objects I will design at least two or more solutions. Here is an example of solving the obstacle by pushing the cloth hanger or making the painting falls.

I also designed some easter-eggs to reveal some secrete in the story as a reward of discovering different ways to solve the same obstacle. In the second level there are multiple solutions to the deer head obstacle using the fire card. If the player choose to simply burn it, the obstacle will be solved but nothing will happen. However if the player choose to burn the shelf and make the plate falls on the deer head rotating it, a hidden capinet will be revealed.

I designed the achievements which will be unlocked when a new animation is discovered. It was aimed to encourage the player to explore and try out different interactions between different cards and objects. This addresses the problem of players' lack of exploration during our playtesting.
